Guideline for Students, Clients, and Outside Visitors

General Guidelines

  • Please DO NOT enter the building if you:
    • Have any of the following symptoms include fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and new muscle aches or headache.
    • Have traveled outside of Canada within the last 14 days
    • Have been in contact with a person who tested positive of COVID-19
  • Please wash your hands or clean them with hand sanitizer before and after your visit.
  • Please maintain physical distancing of at least 2 meters.
  • Please immediately inform our staff if you have visited us within the last 14 days, and have:
    • Tested positive for COVID-19
    • Been recommended to take a COVID-19 test by a healthcare provider
    • Been informed a recent visitor has tested positive for COVID-19
  • If our staff, a recent student, or a visitor exposed to a case of COVID-19:
    • Our campus will be closed for deep cleaning of the workplace before anyone returns to the office.
    • Staff continues to self-isolate for 14 days from your last contact with a case of COVID-19.
  • If you think you might have COVID-19, please follow instructions from BC Center for Disease Control for self-isolation guidelines and medical support.

Our Staff:

We are adding personal protection equipment, and implementing strict hygiene measures. Our staff are required to:

  • Maintain a distance of 2 meters (6 feet) between workers and others wherever possible.
  • Have their temperature checked every morning when reporting to the office with a non-contact thermometer.
  • Wear a non-medical mask.
  • Follow the standard handwashing policy.
  • Sanitize their workstation twice a day adhering to our sanitization schedule. Sanitize any shared meeting room after use.
  • Teachers will need to wear a face shield when teaching in-person classes, including group and private classes.
  • Stay home if sick.

Appointment for Clients and Visitors

  • We encourage students, clients, and visitors to contact us virtually to minimize non-essential in-person visits to our Campus.
  • The option for an in-person visit will be available starting July 6th for initial consultations, Family Discovery meetings, Strategy meetings, and Action Plan meetings. Appointments are required for all essential visits, and appointment records will be kept.
  • When booking appointments, visitors should be reminded to re-schedule if they experience symptoms typical of COVID-19 or are placed in self-isolation. Visitors will be provided and advised as to our COVID policy in advance prior to their meeting at KEY.
  • Campus open hours for visitors are:
    • Monday, Tuesday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
    • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
    • Saturday and Sunday: Closed

Entry and Exit - OAK Campus

  • Entry: Use the elevator to enter the campus. Elevator occupancy limited to 2 families (One parents per family).
  • Exit: Always take the stairs to exit the building. Transfer elevator at 1st floor for visitors going to the parking lot.
  • Temperature Check: Visitors need to have their temperature checked when they arrive at the office with a non-contact thermometer.
  • Mask: Clients and Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask when coming to our campuses.
  • Students, parents, and visitors exhibiting COVID-like symptoms are not allowed to enter the office at any time.

Waiting Area

  • KEY will not arrange on-campus waiting areas. Visitors can wait at the 1st floor Cafe when open and enjoy a discount for purchasing food and beverages.
  • Visitors should dispose of any used sanitizing wipes and other personal protective equipment in the designated bin.
  • Beverages (coffee, tea, water), and non-essential communal items, such as candy, magazines, and complimentary phone chargers will NOT be offered at this time.

In-person Classes

  • In-person classes will start from June 30
  • Social Distancing: Group classes will limit to a maximum of 4 students per class
  • Waiting Area: Waiting Area: We encourage parents and caregivers to minimize their time on campus to reduce their contact with other visitors. KEY will not arrange on-campus waiting areas. Parents or caregivers waiting at the 1st floor Cafe can enjoy a KEY discount for food and beverages.
  • Drop Off: Parents and caregivers should minimize their time on Campus. We encourage Little Scholars parents to stay close to the center and ensure their phone is accessible in case of any assistance or emergency.
  • Pick up: We encourage only one parent or caregiver to pick up their child. Parents should line up at P1 and enter campus when classes are dismissed.
  • Parents Teacher Meeting: Parents Teacher Meeting: Parent Teacher Meetings will remain online. Parents should make appointments with KEY staff to speak to their class teacher.

Classroom Cleaning Routine

  • Deep Cleaning: Our professional janitorial staff will do a deep cleaning of the campus 3 times a week.
  • High-traffic areas and high-contact surfaces: Shall be cleaned 3 times (before, during breaktime, and after) in each class. These areas and surfaces include:
    • Face shields
    • Doorknobs and handles
    • Classroom desks and chairs
    • Handrails
    • Light switches
    • Equipment handles and surfaces (e.g., Paint brushes)
    • Shared toys
    • Shared desktops

Class Materials

  • Students should bring their own stationery with their names clearly labeled on each tool.
  • Students should avoid sharing their own stationery with others.
  • For LS students, all shared class material will be cleaned before, during break time and after each class session.

Role of Parents and Students

  • Symptoms: Parents and caregivers must assess their child daily for symptoms of common cold, influenza, COVID-19, or other infectious respiratory disease before sending them to KEY.
  • Greetings: Avoid close greetings like hugs or handshakes and remind students to keep their hands to themselves when possible.
  • Hand Wash: Students should wash their hands. This should include, at minimum:
    • When they arrive at school and before they go home
    • Before eating and drinking
    • After using the toilet
    • After sneezing or coughing into hands or tissue
    • Whenever hands are visibly dirty
  • Food and Snack: Students must not share food and snacks with others.
    • Students must bring their own water bottles and utensils.
    • Snack bags should be kept in a designated area outside of the classroom.
    • Students should have their snack time in a designated area outside of the classroom.
  • Extra Cloth and Diapers: LS students should have extra change of clothes (or diapers if not fully potty trained) available in their backpack.

Role of Teachers

  • All teachers should wear a face shield when teaching in-person classes, including group and private classes.
  • Teachers will facilitate distancing during class time, and assign designated work areas for students.

Role of KEY Staff

  • Staff will be responsible to check students’ statuses if they have any COVID-like symptoms or if they are still in isolation-period before offering any classes.
  • When students come for classes, staff will be responsible to arrange their hand washing, take students’ temperatures when greeting them at the door, and ensure students’ attendance lists are kept.
